Simpelthen lave nyheder.

  1. But how many people does Berlingske Tidende have on its staff?

It’s of course great if Børn&Unge can report on important developments in ‘real time’, but it’s not realistic to think you can provide coverage 24/7.

Journalists are people too and need to take time off and recharge. I think there’s a real danger that web-based media can create a ’selvforstærkende’ demand for information: we can offer updates at any time of day, without print costs. But readers start to expect those updates – their appetite increases. So more information is uploaded without time for reflection and discussion about what is truly relevant.

To paraphrase the Alcoholics & Anonymous pledge into a prayer for a New Media Age:

    Dear Media,

Give me the information I need,
Protect me from the rubbish I don’t need which fills my mind with useless information,
And give me the wisdom to know the difference between the two.

Well, have to go back to surfing. Heard there is a really neat clip on YouTube with a three-year-old discussing Star Wars while she eats her breakfast.

  2. Hey Uzi!

Fun use of the Serenity Pledge! Although I miss the “accept-what-I-cannot-change” and the “courage-to-change”.

    Something ike this:

Give me the serenity, to accept the newsflow I cannot stop
Courage to not listen, when there is absolutely no need – I’m not missing a fucking thing
And wisdom to know, when the info is totally useless to me – and when, maybe, I can use it.

This has always been the guideline, the criteria, of good journalism – and good cynisism :-) .

By the way – us journalists aren’t really people – are we? :-)

    Peter
